The usual amount of humming & hawing and second-guessing went into selecting 10 pictures from a year of travel & photography for 2014, another busy year in which I somehow managed to travel through 18 countries (but who’s counting?). And here they are, presented in chronological order.
1 || Seoul, South Korea
January 18 || One of the first pictures I captured with my then new Sony Mirrorless camera during a January snoop around the UNESCO listed Changdeokgung Palace Complex in Seoul, South Korea. This is the only picture of the 10 presented here that does not include people.
2 || Copenhagen, Denmark
March 12 || The silhouette of a jogger on a hill overlooking the harbor (& the iconic statue of the Little Mermaind) in Copenhagen, Denmark. Captured during a brief overnight visit to the Danish capital while en route to the Cote D’Azur/French Riviera.
3 || Dubai, United Arab Emirates
April 20 || An April return to the Arabian Peninsula turned out to be quite the photographic treat with this capture of the Dancing Fountain Show at the foot of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates being one of my favourite captures.
4 || El Jadida, Morocco
May 1 || Ignoring elsewhere, I could have easily filled a 2014 Top Ten posting with images from the 6 weeks of the year I spent travelling & photographing Morocco. But as it is the stunningly photogenic country provides 4, including this one of the Citerne Portugaise in the UNESCO listed Cite Portugaise in the Atlantic coastal town of El Jadida.
5 || Erg Chebbi, Morocco
May 19 || I was blown away, literally, by the Moroccan Saharan sands of Erg Chebbi outside the village of Merzouga near the closed border with Algeria.
6 || Meknes, Morocco
May 30 || Late afternoon shadows in Place el Hedim, Meknes, Morocco.
7 || Chefchaouen, Morocco
Feeling all Smurf like while photographing the blue lanes of the medina in Chefchaouen, Morocco. May 30, 2014.
8 || Granada, Andalusia, Spain
June 11 || My photographic highlight of a few weeks in Spain, most of it spent in the southern region of Andalusia having crossed over the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco, was this picture of a tour group crowd walking through a rosebush tunnel in a section of the UNESCO listed Generalife gardens in the grounds of the Alhambra in the Andalusian town of Granada.
9 || Cliffs of Moher, Co. Clare, Ireland
August 27 || I got to be a tour guide/chaperone in my own country (again) in late August when I embarked on a Ireland road trip with Ian of BorderlessTravel.com. I’d been to the Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare, Ireland’s most visited natural attraction, quite a few times before but I especially enjoyed the photographic experience of this latest visit when I captured this image of a section of the cliffs & the Irish Atlantic coastline as seen from the Cliffs of Moher Walking trail.
10 || Edinburgh, Scotland
September 13 || Morning activity on Princess Street as seen from Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Scotland, early on day 4 of a 10-day road trip around Scotland, another highlight of the year.
