A Cultural Cocktail Since Ancient Times & With An Undeniably Tragic Past, Today Historic Sarajevo Is Charming & Vibrant & The Undoubted Highlight Of The Balkans Region
”I find it somewhat ironic that a city in which Muslims, Jews, Orthodox Christian & Catholics have lived in harmony for centuries should have such an unenviable and undeniably tragic past – Sarajevo was both the birthplace of World War I & the location for the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare.”

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
I find it somewhat ironic that a city in which Muslims, Jews, Orthodox Christian & Catholics have lived in harmony for centuries should have such an unenviable and undeniably tragic past – Sarajevo was both the birthplace of World War I & the location for the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare. Today Sarajevo, still bearing very visible scars from the batterings it has taken down through the years, most recently during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War, is understandably looking forward while riding a feel-good wave of optimism. This is a charming, vibrant, historic & intoxicating city of distinct, memorable & easily explored districts, a city that many agree is the undoubted highlight of any visit to Balkans region. It was certainly my regional highlight, and not just because it was oh-so photogenic.
